Dr. Patel serves as the Chief Digital Officer at Prima Health and Vice Chair for Innovation & Clinical Affairs at Department of Medicine in South Carolina. Prisma Health is the largest, most comprehensive, locally owned, non-profit hospital system in South Carolina. He also continues to practice as an internal medicine physician for the past sixteen years. Helps lead the digital health team in technology strategy and implementation. Also leads projects in bringing virtual reality and 3D printing utilization in care delivery. Dr. Patel has given multiple presentations around the country ranging in topics from Healthcare IT transformation, governance, workflow enhancements, health equity, telehealth, AI, and population health. Spearheaded the largest, first-of-its-kind Microsoft Surface pilot in the nation to improve physician workflow, published in the International Journal of Medical Informatics. Played an instrumental role in the acquisition of over $24 million of venture capital funding for healthcare start-up companies. Previously as the medical group’s CMIO, he co-led efforts in the optimization and integration the system’s EHR. Recognized as a leader in defining and articulating a unique vision on the utilization and development of technology in healthcare. Because of his industry contributions, he currently serves on multiple healthcare advisory boards including HP Inc., University of South Carolina College of Engineering and Computer Science, Kyruus, Conversa, Perfect Serve, and Fraunhofer USA. Subject matter expert for multiple Fortune 500 tech companies, such as Hewlett-Packard, and Microsoft. He also has served as principal investigator on multiple IRB approved IT studies in conjunction with USC. Holds a clinical faculty position at the USC School of Medicine department of internal medicine and USC School of Engineering and Computing. He is also one of two physicians in the world who have been awarded Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professional Award. Kathy G. Schwarting, MHA serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Palmetto Care Connections, a non-profit telehealth network for SC that was founded in 2010. PCC works with existing telemedicine/telehealth providers to promote/expand their services as well as with new up and coming applications. PCC primarily focuses on improving access to care for rural/underserved populations. PCC assists providers in vetting the most suitable telehealth technology, conducting a site needs assessment that includes connectivity, installing and configuring the hardware and finally training the staffs to effectively utilize the equipment and software. PCC also Co-Chairs a statewide Telehealth Education Committee with SC AHEC whereby educational tools/resources are developed and distributed to primary care providers. PCC serves as the administrator for South Carolina’s Broadband Consortium called the Palmetto State Providers Network (PSPN) which is used to ensure appropriate bandwidth for health care providers for telehealth services. PCC recently submitted more than $30M in funding requests to the Universal Service Administration on behalf of health care providers in SC. Kathy also serves as the Co-Chair of the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance (SCTA) along with the Medical Director for MUSC Health which is responsible for building a statewide open-access telehealth network for SC and allocating funding for telehealth equipment, services and support as directed by the SC General Assembly. Under Kathy’s leadership, PCC manages a Telehealth Behavioral Health Network of 57 Behavioral Health Sites scattered throughout the state. PCC is also responsible for coordinating a Telehealth Summit for SC on an annual basis and it showcases telehealth success stories in SC and around the nation.

Kathy has over 24 years of experience in rural health care working with various types of providers to improve the overall health care delivery systems. She spent more than fifteen years in rural network development working to foster relationships, develop partnerships, recruit health care providers and promote shared services between health care providers in rural communities by developing and coordinating the first not-for-profit rural health network in South Carolina, which served as a model for other states. Kathy has also served in various capacities of leadership and management in the rural hospital setting including Director of Physician Services, Director of Support Services and Director of Operations for Bamberg County Hospital, a 54-bed acute care hospital. Kathy also established a Hospitalist Program and fully staffed and managed the Emergency Department at Barnwell County Hospital, a 64-bed acute care hospital.

Kathy received her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina and holds a Master in Health Administration degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She serves on numerous advisory boards throughout the state including: the South Carolina Health Information Exchange (SCHIEx), the Low Country Area Health Education Consortium (AHEC), the South Carolina Behavioral Health Coalition (SCBHC) Core Leadership Team, The South Carolina Institute of Medicine & Public Health Workforce Development Task Force, as well as the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance Advisory Board (SCTA). She also serves on the Advisory Board on a national level for The Center for Telehealth and e-Health Law (CTel). Kathy resides in Bamberg, South Carolina with her husband who coaches high school baseball and football. Her oldest son, Tav (22), attends the University of South Carolina and coaches high school football and her youngest son, Garris (21) attends Charleston Southern University.

Thomas Scott (Tom) is the CEO/Founder of New Century Solutions LLC (NCS), leading its NCS Cyber Division. As the inaugural Director of the SC Cyber Consortium, he has been a key leader in the cyber education, cyber workforce development, and cyber protection efforts in both South Carolina and across the nation. He currently serves as the founding director of the South Carolina Cyber Foundation and Association.

With over 30 years of State Government experience in both Florida and South Carolina, Tom has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in protecting State critical infrastructure and cyber assets. He currently holds certifications in information security, information auditing, security leadership, critical infrastructure protection, and project management – he is also recognized a FEMA Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) Practitioner.

Tom is a member of the FBI’s InfraGard program and serves as an advisory board member for the Dutch Fork High School Cyber program. He has actively participated as a member of the MS-ISAC’s Executive Committee as well as the USC School of Law Cybersecurity Task Force.. Tom currently serves the academic community through board service to the Industry Advisory Board for the USC Integrated IT program, the ECPI Computer Security program and the Charleston Southern Computer Science program.

The primary and most urgent objective of The Triangle Net is to fight cybercrime as a collective movement that addresses the talent gap. The Mission of The Triangle Net is to make a large-scale and immediate impact on the cybersecurity talent gap through collaboration, structural change, social engagement, and early education. The Triangle Net connects people with opportunities to learn, work and support others in cybersecurity.

To raise awareness of the endless opportunities in cybersecurity, Cathy started a podcast called Journey into Cybersecurity, and is also working with her local high school in support of a cybersecurity club.
Cathy Olieslaeger works full-time as a Customer Success Manager at Agio Inc. where she supports a wide variety of Agio’s cybersecurity customers across healthcare, local government, higher education, retail and technology. She supported the business development, sales strategy and operations for global telecom, IT and communications organizations such as Verizon, Orange Business Services and Belgacom before joining Agio in 2015.

Cathy is also a founding board member of Tweens & Technology, a NC-based non-profit dedicated to early STEM education.

Before Fortinet, Jay spent 23 years in a variety of roles at a major national VAR building their Healthcare Practice and helping customers consolidate vendors, improve point-of-care, upgrade their infrastructure, and leverage innovation to improve patient care.

Jay was instrumental in working with customers in their EMR upgrades and deployments in the Southeast from the largest multi-state health systems to smaller regional independent hospitals to multi-site specialty practices. Leveraging technology to solve the universal complex problems all Healthcare entities face regardless of size and geographical location; most recently focused on Infosec and Cyber across the client base.

Dr Harris is CEO of Laurel Health Advisors, LLC, drawing on over 25 years of experience leading research, technical assistance, and evaluation to improve access and quality of care for underserved and vulnerable individuals. Her current work portfolio includes assessing the impact of telehealth on primary care and health equity, assisting research to reduce disparities in cancer care, developing resources to support safe opioid prescribing, and demonstrating the impact of telehealth on costs and quality. During her 16 years working in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, she led the Office of Health Care Quality within the Office of the Assistant Secretary where she collaborated across the Federal government on topics related to quality of care. Prior to this role she served as Director of Health Information Technology and Quality for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) where she worked with federally qualified health centers, Ryan White clinics, and rural health centers across the nation to leverage technology to improve access and quality. Dr Harris also served as director of evaluation at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) where she led the evaluation of national grant programs to support EHR adoption, interoperability, and workforce development. She also established and co-chaired the cross Federal Telehealth Collaborative (FedTel) which facilitates the coordination of telehealth efforts across Federal agencies. During her tenure at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), she oversaw nationwide efforts to improve quality for frail, older adults. Most recently, Dr. Harris served as vice president of health at the American Institutes for Research where she oversaw a portfolio of federally funded research projects ranging from technology adoption by states to education and outreach on patient engagement. Dr. Harris’ research has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals including JAMA and the Journal of Healthcare for the Poor and Underserved. She has a PhD in public policy from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University.

Jason Goldwater

Jason C. Goldwater is currently the President and Chief Operating Officer for Laurel Health Advisors, LLC, a small-women owned health care consultancy focusing on health care innovation, health care quality measurement, and health equity. Mr. Goldwater has been in the field of health information technology (health IT) for 26 years and has led a number of projects on the utilization of health IT for improved health care delivery. He has been involved in the field of telehealth for the past seven years, having initially evaluated telehealth services across large urban and rural health networks as part of a peer-review panel for the Health Center Controlled Networks (HCCN) sponsored by the Health Care Resources and Services Administration. Mr. Goldwater also served as a Principal Investigator for a grant funded by the California HealthCare Foundation on the use of telehealth modalities for chronic disease care and care coordination. He also served as a Principal Investigator for a Commonwealth Fund grant exploring the various ways different health care entities, including payers, hospitals, long-term care networks and others used technology-driven solutions, such as health care, to drive value-based care and chronic disease management. Mr. Goldwater has written extensively in the area of telehealth, and how it can impact populations such as the homeless and the chronically ill. He also serves as a peer reviewer for article on telehealth for journals such as Health Affairs and the Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved. While at the National Quality Forum (NQF), he served as the Project Director for the development of a measurement framework that provides a foundation for the development of objective measures to assess the value of telehealth and its impact on clinical care.

Mr. Goldwater has also served as a Health IT Project Manager for NORC at the University of Chicago, where he served as the Principal Investigator for a number of projects, including an evaluation of the Strategic Health Advanced Research Projects (SHARP) program and a Study and Report on the Use of Open-Source Health information Technologies for Safety-Net Populations. Mr. Goldwater also worked for SRA International, a systems integrator based in Fairfax, VA, where he led a project to examine the use of clinical decision support systems within the Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VisTA) EHR system. Mr. Goldwater also spent a decade with the Federal Government, design software applications to assess the quality of care for older adults in nursing homes and hospitals; examining how State Medicaid data could be used for public health; and how to incorporate public health initiatives, such as immunizations, into State Medicaid programs. Mr. Goldwater has both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Emerson College and a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Suffolk University.

Dr. Christine Carr is a Professor of Emergency Medicine and Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She is the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) for Health Sciences South Carolina and is the Senior Clinical Advisor for the South Carolina Hospital Association. Dr. Carr undertook her undergraduate studies at Cornell University, earned her M.D. at the Medical University of South Carolina, completed her internship and residency in Emergency Medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland. She is a practicing ED clinician with extensive experience in clinical, research, and leadership roles in emergency medicine. Dr. Carr’s academic interests and publications focus on clinical informatics. In 2008 Dr. Carr and colleagues at MUSC received and have successfully administered a $2.8 million Duke Endowment grant to launch the Carolina eHealth Alliance Health Information Exchange (CeHA) and in 2011 were awarded a subsequent $600K grant to expand use cases of the HIE. She collaboratively brought four major competing hospital systems together to implement one of the most robust ED-based health information exchanges (HIE’s) in the country.

In her leadership role with SCHA Dr. Carr chairs the Clinical Leadership Council (CLC), a geographically and specialty diverse group of senior physician leaders to provides context and input to the SCHA and SCMA advocacy and public policy process, it serves as a clinical resource on advocacy and policy issues and guides the ongoing work of the SCHA and SCMA, including Health Information Exchange.

Prior to joining ORS, Jim was the Founder, President & CEO of Revolution D, a consulting firm that specializes in geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI) - especially the deployment of high-speed Internet in rural communities. Mr. Stritzinger is regarded as a national expert in this area. He has been featured on NPR Marketplace Tech, was selected to speak at the IBM Think 2019 Conference and invited to present to the US House Rural Broadband Task Force by Congressman James E. Clyburn.

Mr. Stritzinger has held roles with public, private, academic, non-profit, and entrepreneurial organizations. During his career, he has worked as an engineer/software developer for IBM, General Electric and held senior leadership roles with Solomon/Great Plains Software, Microsoft, SCRA, IT-oLogy, Connect South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina. His career highlights include launching SC’s private equity organization (SC Launch, 2005) and a software company (ClearView Software, 1990) which was acquired in 1998 by Solomon and later became part of Microsoft Business Solutions in 2001.

Mr. Stritzinger was selected to join the inaugural class of SC’s prestigious Liberty Fellowship (Class of 2006, part of the Aspen Global Leadership Network), and was inducted to the NC State University (NCSU) Electrical and Computer Engineering Alumni Hall of Fame (2015). He holds a BS Electrical Engineering from NCSU and a Master of Health Information Technology from USC and is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Tom Leary is Senior Vice President, Government Relations for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), where he leads the organization’s public policy initiatives, policy analysis, and outreach to support the vision to realize the full health potential of every human everywhere.

Leary also serves as the Executive Director of the HIMSS Foundation, the philanthropic arm of HIMSS which enriches the public discourse on public policy and internships; advances clinician informatics and data science education; sponsors undergraduate and graduate scholarships to advance health information and management-related fields; and advances access and inclusion in the healthcare community.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in History/Political Science from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University, and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) through the American Society of Association Executives.

Tom is a proud member of the Leary Bunch from Wanaque, NJ. He lives in Falls Church, VA with his awesome educator wife, Day, and teenage sons, Jackson Thomas and Marcus Paul, who are his current and future heroes

Kenneth R. Deans, Jr. is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the nation’s first statewide health research organization that includes South Carolina’s largest research universities and health systems. Deans joins HSSC from Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. His most recent role with Chesapeake was serving as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Deans brings a tremendous background of over 27 years of workplace experience, with over 20 specifically focused on advancing healthcare IT in research-oriented as well as traditional health systems, over half of which has been in "c-level" roles in complex market places. He has a successful record in leading collaborations with other health systems. Deans, in his role, was a constant collaborator with researchers.

Tom was the former editor of Healthcare Matters, a contributing editor to Forbes and remains a contributing author to Spend Matters.

He has been the first business executive hired by technology innovators from MIT, the University of Cambridge and Carnegie Mellon University, so getting high-brow intellectuals and early commercial adopters on the same page is a battle-tested communication skill that Tom has had ample opportunity to hone over a 30-year career.

Tom earned his undergraduate degree at Allegheny College and went on to the University of Taipei to continue his study of Mandarin. He has a knack for connecting dots that others don’t see and an ability to communicate the possibilities

S. David McSwain, MD MPH is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and the Chief Medical Information Officer for MUSC Health in Charleston South Carolina, leading the integration of health IT and digital tools into clinical practice for the health system. With over a decade of experience in digital health innovation and virtual care, he is an established national leader, particularly in telehealth development, research, and policy. He is the Co-Founder of the SPROUT (Supporting Pediatric Research on Outcomes and Utilization of Telehealth) national telehealth research network, the Main Principal Investigator for the NIH/NCATS-funded SPROUT-CTSA National Telehealth Research Collaborative, and the Chair of the Section on Telehealth Care at the American Academy of Pediatrics. He played a central role in the establishment of the MUSC Center for Telehealth and was the inaugural recipient of the American Telemedicine Association Champion Award in 2018.

Bill Munley has served as Administrator of Shriners Hospitals for Children — Greenville since January 2018, becoming only the eighth executive to hold the position in the hospital’s near 100-year history.

As Administrator, Mr. Munley provides direction, advice and oversight to Department Leadership, as well as spearheads the hospital’s collaborative Executive Leadership Team. Serving as a thought-leader and seeking high performance across all care categories, Mr. Munley is also charged with operational strategies, achieving fiscal goals, establishing best practices and driving cross-hospital synergies.

Previously, Mr. Munley served as Vice President, Orthopedics, General Surgery and Professional Services at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. There, he was responsible for both inpatient and outpatient surgeries as well as rehabilitation for all orthopedic services for three decades.

Jason H. Cherry is the Director of IS Technical Services for Lexington Medical Center, where he has worked for over 4 years. In this role, Jason’s teams have responsibility for all datacenter technologies for the hospital. He is passionate about continual improvement and the ways that technology can improve patient care. Prior to moving to South Carolina, Jason worked over 10 years for the University of Chicago Medicine and was an active member in the Greater Illinois Chapter of HIMSS, serving as the Co-Director of Sponsorship. Before moving into Healthcare, Jason’s first IT experience came in the Financial Industry working for the Board of Trade Clearing Corporation, which was later acquired by the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) in Atlanta. Jason is the past President of the South Carolina Chapter of HIMSS. His previous role with SC HIMSS was as the Director of Advocacy. He has over 15 years of experience in Healthcare IT.

She also serves on the South Carolina Telehealth Alliance Advisory Council to guide and support state-wide telehealth initiatives. Amelia holds a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from the University of South Carolina.
