Erin Osbourn Earns the 2020 Stoltenberg Future Fund CIO Scholarship
Stoltenberg Consulting Inc., a leading healthcare IT consulting firm, announced today that Erin Osbourn is the 2020 recipient of the Stoltenberg Future Fund Scholarship for secondary education through the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). Osbourn serves as the CIO and CISO of the New York Hotel Trades Council & The Hotel Association of New York City Employee Benefit Funds. The non-profit organization provides the health plan and ambulatory health care services for the hotel workers of New York City.
The Stoltenberg Future Fund awards scholarships annually through the CHIME Education Foundation for recipient use at any of CHIME’s educational events, including the Healthcare CIO Boot Camp, Fall CIO Forum and CHIME Spring CIO Forum, or toward formal secondary education tuition and related expenses. The scholarship program aims to funnel necessary IT leadership expertise into healthcare organizations to impact meaningful patient outcomes, clinical care safety and secure data capture, while advancing more consumer-driven patient experiences. The need has especially been noted as many organizations have been forced to cut secondary education tuition reimbursement programs amid COVID-19 budgetary concerns.
“IT departments have a critical role to play in making healthcare more accessible and responsive for patients. I’m pursuing a mid-career master’s degree to better understand the major challenges CIOs are facing, from cybersecurity threats, choosing the right technology for the organization’s mission, and improving data exchange and interoperability,” Osbourn said. “I’m also passionate about building diverse and inclusive IT teams, and nurturing the growth of future leaders in our industry. I’m so grateful to CHIME and Stoltenberg Consulting for their support.”
Stoltenberg Consulting pledged $50,000 to the CHIME Education Foundation over a span of 25 years. Osbourn stands as the 12th scholarship recipient from the Stoltenberg Future Fund program since its inception in 2009. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be CHIME members in good standing, express need for financial support for continuing education and describe their professional accomplishments and aspirations in the healthcare IT industry. Previous recipients include IT leaders from Ascension Saint Thomas, Dayton Children’s Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital, UNC Health Care, Brooke Army Medical Center, and Jackson Health System.
Osbourn has been in the health IT industry for 12 years. She was appointed CIO and CISO of the New York Hotel Trades Council & The Hotel Association of New York City Employee Benefit Funds in 2017, serving as the first woman and youngest person to ever hold the roles. She oversees the Information Technology department spanning infrastructure, networking, telephony, hardware, clinical application and benefits software. Among her many contributions during her tenure, she has established a NIST-based cybersecurity program, served as the HIPAA security officer overseeing policy and procedure development, directed an enterprise-wide risk management program, and successfully contained and controlled a major cybersecurity incident. Osbourn plans to utilize the scholarship award toward her tuition at Boston University, where she is pursuing her master’s degree in computer information systems with a concentration in healthcare informatics.
Stoltenberg has been an active CHIME Foundation firm for 13 years. Additional continuing education endeavors include the Consultant Development Program for recent undergraduate college graduates, which offers mentorship, vendor training and hands-on experience in the competitive health IT industry.
