2015 Scholarship Awardees

Another great set of submissions by applicants from all over the State of South Carolina has been winnowed down to this year’s two awardees.  Please join us in congratulating this year’s recipients:

  • Shauntel K. Howard moved from Nashville, Tennessee to Charleston, South Carolina in May of 2014. She is a graduate of the Jeanette C. Rudy School of Nursing at Cumberland University, where she graduated with her BSN in 2014. She was recently accepted into the Master of Health Informatics program at Medical University of South Carolina for the fall of 2015. Shauntel is currently working as an Oncology nurse at Trident Medical Center.
  • Angela Korneychuk is a senior at USC Upstate pursuing her major in Health Information Management (HIM). In high school she participated in the Beta Club and Honor’s Society Club which included being a tutor, participating in the Christmas in Action program, and volunteering in the Community by helping disabled or elders in need of an extra hand. She was also very active in different sports including Cross Country, Soccer, and Track. During the last year of high school she was enrolled in an Intro to Health Professional course where she worked on receiving her CNA license. After completing the course she realized not only the importance in caring for patients and their health but also in their documentation and health records. The nursing home facility where she worked at still used paper-based records. It was then she seen her future in HIM and the difference it could make in peoples’ life’s.

Shauntel and Angela will each receive a scholarship award of $1500.  They will also have the opportunity to interact with the SC HIMSS Board over the coming year. We’re looking forward to their ideas around how to continue to grow and improve our Scholarship Program.

Thanks to the Scholarship Committee members for their extraordinary efforts in eliciting, reviewing and evaluating what was a great group of applicants.  The Committee included last year’s Scholarship winners Jackie Cox and Lynn Ethridge, Chapter President Frank Scafidi, President-elect Bob LaPorte and Secretary Shari Donley.
